“ The stage of you who knew
Before you were all the when
And where and wearing
Long fingered, tall and taller
The curl and twisting twisted
Long hair of generations
Gold sun gleaming wristed
Was wait waiting wanting
The you of you who knew
Prepared delectably so so
To murmur, sing, scratch, scream
The words of hear me
No performer he but real real
The he he The Sir Marcus of the Blake
To speak….
“ Sparks and fire cascade in front of me made of effervescent swirls
Gusting through from a cosmic world
While my thoughts dance a beautiful dance
Of all good things that stand a chance
As long as I give it a believing glance
Achieving what I believe in
Relax and just focus on your breathin
Smiles and laughter even if I “break even”
Have more than enough love to self-sustain the most critical heathen
Most recent lesson? The more love I give, the more I recieve within
Grace in my pace as the glow flows with my wind
It’s time to laugh and stay cheesin
Time is a fusion I can play with
It ain’t work if I know what I believe in
Just follow faithfully the next 200 feet
The effervescent swirls will make the rest of the way dazzle with whatever your feet meet
No regrets, not just yet—actually never
There’s one thing I’ve learned from the tears and sweat
I remember sincerely asking for it all
So I’m blessed we met.
“ I put on for my city,
and all my city wants to do is take off cloths,
get drunk and holla at hoes,
ride around town with 20 foes,
Pants sagging follow the band waggon,
pretend to be something they ain’t,
brush in hand not a drop of paint,
Dress up in high heels and spray tan,
because it’s to hot to lay or walk on the sand,
He says he makes music,
but no cds in hand,
or the back drop of a band,
just business cards no business plan,
and the cycle continues from venue to venue,
you could cry a whole box of tissues,
for these tattered issues.
Everybody say they down to ride,
but when the ride breaks down,
fake friends are never around to be found,
To give you a jump or push you up that hill,
they rather stand still face smashed on chill,
From the sideline hold you down like an anvil,
All this drama I think I need an Advil,
so much hate in the game,
the field is at a stand still,
This cut throat culture,
eat your heart like a vulture,
bite you like a viper,
from a far take shots like a sniper,
shit on you shoes like runny diaper.
You think its hot now welcome to the kitchen,
the melting pot of superstitions and division,
where racism is alive thriving in kicking,
But I ain’t suppose to say shit,
I’m suppose to keep it cooler than Cool Whip,
But fuck the bull shit,
I rather throw an ice pick,
At all these poser’s and politics,
The city is overflowing with development,
But if your black,
and live on the wrong side of the tracks,
You might be considered as irrelevant,
I’m tired of seeing everyday people struggle,
everyday waking up in the hustle,
Why can’t it be all good,
bright and colorful like South Beach or Wynwood,
We are all neighbors,
but don’t live I the same hood.
Miami the melting pot,
The stovess on but the food aint hot.
“ Those Winter Sundays
Sundays too my father got up early
and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,
then with cracked hands that ached
from labor in the weekday weather made
banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.
I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking.
When the rooms were warm, he’d call,
and slowly I would rise and dress,
fearing the chronic angers of that house,
Speaking indifferently to him,
who had driven out the cold
and polished my good shoes as well.
What did I know, what did I know
of love’s austere and lonely offices?
